Pituitary Gland
Anatomy: The pituitary gland is located in the middle of the base of the brain, near the hypothalamus.
Function: The pituitary gland has a multitude of functions in the body, including growth hormone production, production of hormones that act on other endocrine glands, muscles and the kidneys, regulation of endocrine function, and storage of hormones produced by the hypothalamus. Fun fact: The pituitary gland is also called the "Master Gland" because it directs so many other endocrine glands and organs to start or stop hormone production. |
