The Thalamus
Anatomy: Like the cerebrum, the thalamus is divided lengthwise into two sections. The thalamus is located at the top of the brainstem, between the cerebral cortex and the midbrain. It is situated diagonally above the hypothalamus.
Structure: The thalamus has several functions within the body, including motor control, receipt of auditory, somatosensory and visual sensory signals, relay of sensory signals to the cerebral cortex, and control of sleep and awake states. |
