The Cerebrum
Anatomy: The cerebrum is the largest portion of the human brain. It is divided into 2 cerebral hemispheres, which are connected by the corpus callosum. The hemispheres are each divided into four lobes, the temporal, occipital, parietal, and frontal lobes. The cerebrum is encased by the cerebral cortex, the wrinkled outer layer of the brain.
Function: The cerebrum has many functions. However, it is mostly known for its association with higher brain function, such as thought and movement. The lobes each specialize in a certain group of functions mandatory for successful operation within the central nervous system. |
