Pons
Location: The pons is a portion of the brainstem located between the midbrain and the medulla oblongata.
Function: The pons serves as a bridge between many parts of the nervous system, including the cerebellum and cerebrum. Additionally, many nerves with a myriad of functions originate in the pons. Being a part of the brainstem, the pons also plays a role in many automatic functions necessary for life, such as intensity and frequency of breathing. It has also been associated with control of sleep cycles and reflexes. |
